WAVES and BEACHES is a book written by two scientists who can actually write, unusual, if I may say so, which is probably why it is such a terrific read. And between the two, Willard Bascom and Kim McCoy, besides measuring and inventing many of the instruments and processes by which we understand oceans, the two paraglided, surfed, kayaked, dived, explored ancient and modern wrecks for gold bullion and wine casks, hunted diamonds on the beaches of Namibia while dodging the famous lions there, and pretty much had an uproariously good time, or so it would seem, doing science and following their respective curiosity.
